Must haves in your work wardrobe

Image
Hey Gems, How is everyone's weekend going? I got a request that I loved from a reader asking what they need in order to have all the needs for a new job. I am so excited for this because I went crazy in buying all sorts of wardrobes when I started working that I didn't end up needing! So here are the top few items everyone should have in their work wardrobe that will make sure they are all set! 1. Black jeans So its no question that some offices require more formal dress but most now are satisfied with business casual! This means black jeans, no rips and a nice top. I suggest buying 2 pairs of black jeans because they will need to always be ready to go when you need! 2. A go-to blazer One blazer is enough and trust me on that! I have so many and never wear them! I only really use blazers when meetings, important clients, etc. are ongoing. If there is no need for a blazer, it isn't my favourite.  3. You don't need a tone of dress shirts Okay so, I bought a tone of nice s...

Side Hustle: Q & A

Image
Hey gems, I asked you all to send in any and all questions on my instagram for me to answer here in a more detailed way. A lot of them were about juggling a career, a hobby and a side project all at once and taking online courses. So let's dive right in! Firstly, this kind of additional income, project or learning experience isn't one that is supposed to cause added stress. So my number one key recommendation is to make sure you're embarking on something you enjoy. That is really the main key to this because there will be times, no matter how organized you are, that you become overwhelmed so I highly recommend choosing your own sanity over dollar signs any day.  Once you narrow down items you enjoy, you guys asked me how to find clients for income, or if you're looking at taking courses, how to find them. All of the above can be answered really simply: Network. I guarantee that each of you know people in an enormously wide range of careers, who all have their own connec...

Social Media for your Business

Image
Hey gems, Today's blog is going to be a little different because it focuses on the business side of social media! As the tide of social media and creations of new platforms roll through, there are many adjustments to be made by any business owner. There are different sites, ways to connect to new clients, communities being created and more. The difficulty herein lies with the constant updates, new uses, additions, etc. However, using these tools can be the difference between a potential client picking you or a competitor.  Each platform has specific uses, and the truth is, knowing when and how to use each is critical. LinkedIn : LinkedIn is a business and corporate focused platform where reputations can be built and visibility earned quickly. By using your LinkedIn for aspects such as job postings, company achievements, new hires, etc. you create a transparent and honest discussion with your community, clients and employees. This makes your brand more reputable as in the la...

My 5 favorite book series

Image
Hey gems!  Today I am unleashing my nerd self and going all in on my 5 favorite book series . There's nothing I love more at the end of a long day than to cuddle up to a good book and get lost in its imaginary world. Some romance, some sci-fi, and a lot of daydreaming. After The After series is a total of 4 books, plus the “before” novel which now brings the total to 5.  The story is not a conventional love story between two teens, but so raw with emotion and struggle. The wild differences between the two main characters give readers a look into a relationship involving two drastically different people who might not be so different after all. It also gives us all hope for people to change, although that hope is extremely realistic. There is no magic life-changing moment, but four books, and many years of work and effort. I love that this series isn’t always pretty, but it brings readers in so deeply that you’ll find yourself laughing, crying, confused and maybe even t...

Being Kind to Yourself

Image
Hey gems, If you’ve been reading for a while you know I started working full time in April. At that point I was still in classes and exams: by May I was done school but still had a really tough time adjusting. I wasn’t at all expecting the adjustment to take as long as it did. I was used to working two, sometimes three jobs while being in school. Yet, working full time was really challenging for the first two months. I was still working part time on weekends so it was a 7 day straight schedule. Even once that ended, I found myself always feeling like I never had any personal time. I finally am feeling like I have a great hold on my time, and even though I still work some weekends, I make sure to keep at least one weekend day off per week (when I can). Here are some of the tricks I found most useful! Schedule your week: Little things like outfits, evening activities, meal planning, etc. Can make a huge difference. Having things prepared ahead of time really helps you st...

Class of 2019

Image
Hey there my gems, I haven't been writing in quite a while but I wanted to let you all know that I am officially a University graduate!! I walked across the stage a few weeks ago and haven't gotten a chance to let you know but it's time to let you all in on how it went down! Even though classes ended months ago and I've been working full time ever since, I loved every moment of the long ceremony. Let's start with the fact that it was a three hour long event which, as much as I appreciate the speeches, was SO LONG. I honestly thought all the way up to the day of that I would be super unaffected by the whole day. I knew I was graduating, I had been working for months, I didn't at all feel sad to be leaving school and I really wasn't excited about attending my ceremony because I thought it would be long and boring. Then the day came, next thing I know my hair and nails are being done and the whole family is dressed up. I started to feel nostalgic and a lit...

The Bachelor

Image
Okay gems! Let’s get real! Some people love the bachelor franchise and some hate it! I’m the first to say that the show is not the most realistic and definitely for those of us who are hopeless romantics! BUT I LOVE IT! Listen, the bachelor franchise has a lot of drama, reality, not so real moments and a lot of gossip! It might be hard to fathom why a 20 something girl with multiple jobs and a full time school schedule would possibly waste time watching a show that offers absolutely nothing to her life. Let me tell you that’s EXACTLY why I watch! I want to turn my brain off and watch someone else’s life while I take a break from mine! Also TV drama is so juicy!!! SPOILERS COMING Let’s talk about Colton! Yes he’s a virgin and no I’m not going to even waste time on that aspect because it’s so overrated and way too talked about! The man is waiting for the one, what else is there to say? Rare, sure, but not any less valid than someone who hasn’t waited for the one! He's an adu...

Winter to Spring Fashion

Image
Hey there my gems, It's MARCH and that means that the snow is melting and the sun is shining a little brighter! This time is so exciting because we know spring is just around the corner and it's definitely helping to get through these last bits of cold winter. There are still big puffy coats and some boots to wear but there are ways to start switching from winter looks to spring! Sunglasses The sun is out and it's time to shine! Sun glasses are an obsession for me, I own so many pairs! No only can you get different styles & colors, but you can also wear them in your hair as an accessory. Sunglasses are a little shine and sparkle added to your outfit without taking over and they can easily be removed. I'm obsessed and so should you because they bring out the sun and I cannot wait to wear them all day!!! Ankle or Ripped jeans Okay, ankle jeans might need to take a slight backseat until the weather warms a little more, but ripped jeans can definitely start comin...

Over It

Image
Anyone else have days where things just aren't looking up? I'm having one of those days right now and I realized that in my blog I try to be as motivating as possible, so this might not be something I would have normally wrote about, but I want to be real on this blog. Honestly, it's also super therapeutic.  I woke up today, after a bad sleep and I was just not ready for the day. My energy was at 0, then I had to stay at work longer, and had a longer commute. Came home and sometimes the sarcastic comments just cannot be handled. Like today. I can't tolerate any sass, even though usually I'd just respond with my own sassy comment. Someday's the reply is just no. The thing is I don't know what to change, if anyone has suggestions please let me know. I have school, work and my internship, and then my little amount of alone time which I generally spend catching up on my TV shows. For a few weeks I didn't have the alone time, I worked all the time but t...
