How to: Side Hustle

Hey hey hey my gems!
I have been very vocal on my Instagram this week about being busy with not only my full-time job but my side hustle, online class and more. I got tones of questions about my side hustle and some small how to questions.

1. I want to start a side hustle but don't know what direction to go in?
Think of things you love, things you enjoy, that calm you, etc. List them, write them and review them. When you find the activity, item or passion that you want to pursue it is a huge weight lifted because you finally have a direction in which to move.

2. I've decided what I want my side income to be based on but how do I start?
This is tricky because it's not as simple as it seems and it sure isn't a one size fits all situation. The truth is that depending on what your project is, who you are and how you work, this can be drastically different. I personally made some goals. I actually based my goals and my starting off on college application process in the USA. I have seen tones of videos where they explain their reach schools, goal schools and safety schools. I did the same for clients and projects. My reach was the biggest and most out there goal, then my goal was the realistic but may still need some growth before achieving, and safety was a level at which I knew I can succeed.

3. How do I grow my clientele?
This is probably the hardest part of it all. Sometimes opportunities come to us in ways we don't expect and other times we have to seek them out. I think the thing that we forget is we often have a much bigger network then we realize. From past employers to parents I babysit for, I actually didn't realize how much opportunity was right around the corner. When you send a little message simply advising the people you know of your new project, you'd be surprised by the responses you get and how quickly they can pass along the message. I actually suggest starting in small groups when you advise people of your new project because you don't want to bite off more than you can chew.

4. How can I balance between personal side projects and my career?
Planning is definitely key! I have a notebook specific to each project so that I don't get any items confused and I always have the information to look back on. For me this is a really great way to keep up momentum and always be able to pick up where I left off. For people who work more electronically the same can apply just through some different apps.

Just remember that starting off isn't concrete. You can start off in one direction and then pivot as you learn and grow or find a new way of working.

Starting is the hardest part, from there, you can do whatever you wish.

Talk soon,
T
