Training your hair
Good morning gems!
I did some stories and answered some of your questions on my Instagram earlier this week you guys requested a more detailed hair care blog so here we are!
Disclaimer: I want to start by clarifying that I have super super thick hair, and that it’s not crazy long but I have dyed it multiple times before so I try really hard to make sure it doesn’t get the straw like texture of dyed hair. So I’m not starting with perfect hair by any means, the hair dye has definitely taken a toll I’m just OCD about fixing it!
So first things first, it really doesn’t matter whether you’ve dyed it or not, the best thing you can do is train your hair to last long between washes. This is super annoying at first because it means slowly extending the time between washes constantly. That means oily hair to deal with and we all know how much it sucks when you feel the greasiness of your hair. The best thing is to rip it off like a bandaid, stick to it for two weeks and you’ll already see less oils and then keep it going!
Right now I wash my hair twice a week, and sometimes, I’ll push it to once depending on the week. The factors are more related to my activities. For example, if I worked out a lot I know I’ll be washing it twice because the added sweat makes it greasier and dirtier. If it’s been a lazier week and I didn’t workout or do anything physical and my hair was tied up most of the week, I’ll usually wash it once a week.
Remember though, that if you feel the need to wash your hair but you’re trying to push it as long as possible that you can wash it with water as a great alternative. Going into the shower, give it a good rinse and then scrub as if there was shampoo but under the water. It’ll add you a day or two to your hairs cycle.
Another alternative is dry shampoo! Now I’m not the biggest fan of dry shampoo because of my hairs texture it doesn’t extend as much as I’d want but I’ve heard so many people love it! So I definitely think that if it works for your hair texture, you should go for it!
Finally, let’s talk conditioner. If I condition my hair after a wash, I know it’ll last about two days less than it would if I didn’t. Same goes for hair masks and any added products. If I add anything to help the smooth factor my hair will last less for sure!
So keep these things in mind and as much as you might be uncomfortable with some greasy hair for the first two weeks of training your hair, toss it into a bun and no one will be the wiser!
Talk soon gems and good (hair) luck!
