April Book of the Month(Better late then never): The Sister between us

 Hi gems,

I am catching up on a few blogs today which means catching up on the books of the month! This book was a really exciting spin on the "best friend's sibling" and I thought it was a fresh take on time jumps as well. the Sister between us by Hailey Dickert was a really fun and creative book that took us from childhood to adulthood of our characters on an unexpected rollercoaster.

The two main characters, Jake and Leah, have known each other their whole lives. Leah is basically a permanent fixture of his family as she is best friends with his sister Chloe. They begin a relationship as teens, secretly OF COURSE! The whole story plays out really giving us a sense of a usual sibling's best friend romance but when a few turns happen, there is a really unexpected plot twist that comes with this.

SPOILERS BELOW

Chloe and Jake have a great family but there are a few battles like their mom having left them and later being in jail. Jake tells Leah but they keep secrets from Chloe not to hurt her. This of course, does not go well. Chloe is supportive of their relationship but when she finds out they are keeping more secrets she is really upset and takes off! Leah jumps in the car with her as she doesn't want her to go alone. This is where our big spin happens, the book jumps over a decade later, when we find out that Chloe got into a car accident that night. Leah is okay and now a flight attendant, Jake is off playing sports in Europe, and Chloe has passed away. This leaves readers shocked at this plot twist, we slowly and surely can combine information about the last decade, how Leah and Jake broke up.

Over the second half of the book, we watch Leah and Jake as adults and as they reconnect to each other and in support of Chloe's memory.

This was such a fun twist on a genre we all know and love!

Tia
